The people of Hong Kong have shown the world that you can fight tyranny and win, so will Hongkongers' recent success ignite a democratic revolution in China so powerful that it could overthrow the Communist Party's dictatorship?

What do the overseas Chinese think about Hong Kongers protesting against the China extradition act?
I live in Taiwan where all the problems took place. A Hong Kong guy (clever HK guy?) took his girlfriend to Taiwan, killed her, dumped her body, and swiftly flew back to Hong Kong (about an hour flight). All evidence was caught on the videos. The problem is that there is no extradition law to send the guy back for him to be tried in Taiwan.

Simple as that. You can imagine other less clever HK guys might just happily use the loophole to follow suit.

The funny thing about politics is that there are always even more clever guys waiting in the wing to take any advantage of a mundane situation, distort it ( the extradition law would send political dissidents to China), and stoke up the public sentiment to the ignition point, under the pretext of freedom-fighting. Instead of a simple extradition law which protects the average HK residents from harm (being killed overseas), the rabble-rousers re-labeled the event as “anti-extradition to China” movement. Historically people with political ambitions would go to any length to gain recognition, and this is definitely one of them.

Naturally, the blood-thirst western media are only too happy to encourage the chaoses. Yes, media love bloody scenes and the media love to sell chaoses.

How do you think the current unrest in Hong Kong will turn out in the longer term?

Nicely written. I think it would shock many Americans to know that not only do many Chinese not care one way or another, some actually believe that the government in place in China is superior to the system in place here in the United States.

I cannot believe it when I see this, you know that you Americans always say we are brainwashed and we have no democracy. But I want to say that everything has its shortcomings. And you always just talk about our defects. I live in Chinese mainland now, and people surrounded me just care about the economy and their families, they care little about the democracy . So we develop the economy first. I think we will know the democracy better when most of people have enough money to spend and don't worry about the food and the house. Sorry for my poor grammar, and thank you for the kindness for us.

Why is Chinese nationalism so popular on Quora? While obviously nationalism exists in all countries, it seems disproportionately popular when it comes to questions about China.

There are many non Chinese people on Quora who defend China from ignorant attacks. They can’t be called Nationalist because they are not Chinese. I think most people, including Chinese people who defend China are not necessarily being Nationalist, but just being fair and standing up for China. They are the well informed people who actually know about China or who have lived there. They tend to defend China and the millions of people who respect the country against the ignorant and potentially Nationalist people who attack China. Most of the verbal attacks on China are from misinformed people, or just plain Nationalistic mean spirited lesser mortals!!!

It's true. You can even go out in public wearing pajamas and slippers in the evening. No one cares. As long as you mind your own business. Another thing I love about being in China, is that you can get up and walk around during live performances if you get restless and eat and drink and that's so much better than sitting there politely and falling asleep.
